A surprising mix of creativity, boldness and pleasure through the organisation of artistic workshops and shows.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>\u2018We prioritise beauty and looking for the venue\u2019s light. \u00a0This farm is built in a way that means there is light everywhere\u2019, explains Bernard Tirtiaux, owner of the Ferme de Martinrou and founder of the artistic project. \u00a0\u2018We planted trees, installed a pond, we wanted this place to be beautiful\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Bernard Tirtiaux rebought the family farm in 1980 to transform it into a cultural and creative venue. He renovated it primarily with recovered materials that he had picked up here and there. Since its beginnings, the Ferme de Martinrou has been a recognised place of cultural interest in Charleroi M\u00e9tropole.<\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1549\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1549\" style=\"width: 1600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1549 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.charleroi-metropole.be\/app\/uploads\/2018\/11\/13_Ferme-de-Martinrou.00_01_00_07.Still012-1600x900.jpg\" alt=\"maison-jardin-\u00e9cologie-martinrou-lutin\" width=\"1600\" height=\"900\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1549\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The bubble house, built at the bottom of the garden of the Ferme de Martinrou is impressive, a real-life hobbit house<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>Creative space<\/h2>\n<p>The Ferme de Martinrou encourages creativity at all levels. A number of artists live on-site. There are seven rental spaces, as well as the house and workshop of Bernard Tirtiaux, a master glassmaker.<\/p>\n<p>A \u2018bubble house\u2019, also called \u2018knitting house\u2019, was built at the bottom of the garden in the 80s. \u00a0This modular residence is designed to be curved. \u00a0It is made from plaster and glass wool. \u00a0The interior has been designed to be practical, there is no wasted space. <em>\u00a0\u2018We imagined this house with friends, we took a lot of pleasure from building it. It resembles a hobbit house. \u00a0It could be a good alternative to the current housing crisis\u2019<\/em>, explains Bernard Tirtiaux.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>All the workshops are given by professional artists who are experts in their areas<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>A number of creative workshops are also organised at the farm. <em>\u2018We really focus on the quality of the workshops. \u00a0All of the workshop leaders are professional artists, renowned in their particular areas\u2019<\/em>, explains Lisou Radar, coordinator of the Ferme de Martinrou non-profit. The workshops are designed for children, young people and adults.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1545\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1545\" style=\"width: 1600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1545 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.charleroi-metropole.be\/app\/uploads\/2018\/11\/13_Ferme-de-Martinrou.00_00_38_20.Still008-1600x900.jpg\" alt=\"ateliers-enfants-adolescents-adultes-martinrou-cr\u00e9atif\" width=\"1600\" height=\"900\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1545\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A number of creative workshops, designed for children, teenagers and adults, are organised at Martinrou<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>A bold programme<\/h2>\n<p><em>\u2018We have been putting on shows here for 40 years. We focus on boldness, we have invented a lot here. \u00a0For example, we show a film or we organise an improvisation show designed for children which is also a babysitting service, if their parents are watching a play\u2019<\/em>, explains Bernard Tirtiaux.<\/p>\n<p>Nine adult shows and eight designed for a young audience are scheduled during the year. \u00a0The people responsible for scheduling the shows attend all of the performances before choosing them and organising them at the farm. <em>\u00a0\u2018We want shows that move us, that make us laugh, that surprise us. \u00a0We want the audience to have a good time\u2019<\/em>, says Lisou Radar. \u00a0<em>\u2018They fully trust our choices. \u00a0We offer very different things, but they are all enjoyable, each in their own way\u2019.<\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Subscribers enjoy the diversity of the shows and the welcome<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The farm has two theatres. The Petit Th\u00e9\u00e2tre, has wooden benches and 90 seats and the Grande Salle has 264 seats.<\/p>\n<h2>A place of pleasure<\/h2>\n<p>The farm has more than a thousand subscribers. 80% of them come from Charleroi M\u00e9tropole. The audience is attracted to the performances but also to the place itself. The farm is easy to access (it is located just next to the motorway) and has a car park.<\/p>\n<p>The family aspect is also a significant asset. \u00a0<em>\u2018A number of people follow us primarily for the quality of the welcome. \u00a0We know the subscribers, the seats that they like, where they feel good\u2019<\/em>, she says.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1547\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1547\" style=\"width: 1600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1547 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.charleroi-metropole.be\/app\/uploads\/2018\/11\/13_Ferme-de-Martinrou.00_00_47_16.Still010-1600x900.jpg\" alt=\"repas-germoir-spectateurs-th\u00e9atre-Martinrou\" width=\"1600\" height=\"900\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1547\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A meal, prepared by Le Germoir, is offered to the audience before each production at Martinrou<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The bar and the meal also add to the friendly atmosphere. A menu is offered to the audience before each performance.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.germoir.be\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Le Germoir<\/a>, socio-professional integration restaurant, offers a starter, main course and dessert alongside the theatres. Special drinks and beers are also sold before and after the show. \u00a0An excuse for getting actors and audience members to mingle. <em>\u2018In general, the actors come and have a drink at the bar after the performance, it\u2019s really nice for the audience\u2019<\/em>, she says. The bar-restaurant has hosted exhibitions for a while.<\/p>\n<p>The farm can also be hired for private events.<\/p>\n<p>In the future, ferme de Martinrou will welcome a new director.
