{"id":5895,"date":"2020-07-08T15:47:44","date_gmt":"2020-07-08T13:47:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.charleroi-metropole.be\/2020\/07\/08\/randonnees\/"},"modified":"2021-03-24T23:13:47","modified_gmt":"2021-03-24T21:13:47","slug":"meandering-trails-unusual-and-surprising-landscapes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cm-site.fidelodev.be\/en\/meandering-trails-unusual-and-surprising-landscapes\/","title":{"rendered":"Meandering trails, unusual and surprising landscapes"},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote><p>Miniature towns, wild panoramas, picturesque trails through fields and woods, the region is simply bursting with unique locations that you can discover on foot.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Explore the Metropolitan Area through its hiking trails, and find a surprising change of scenery.<\/p>\n<h2>The slag heap trails<\/h2>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/cheminsdesterrils.be\/2010\/11\/09\/le-sentier-des-terrils-ou-le-gr412\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Slag Heap Trail\u00a0<\/a>(the Long Hiking Trail or \u201cGR\u201d 412) winds through the mining sites dotted around the former industrial basin of Charleroi and its slag heaps, formerly the terrain of men, but with nature now fully reasserting its presence.<\/p>\n<p>Every year, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eden-charleroi.be\/eden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Eden<\/a>\u00a0organises \u201cla Boucle Noire\u201d together with other Charleroi-based partners. The three types of geological strata in this region offer walkers a landscape that is diverse and unique in Belgium.<\/p>\n<p>In the same geographical area, the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.foretdupaysdechimay.be\/en\/page\/the_great_crossing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Great Crossing of the Chimay Country Forest<\/a>\u00a0offers a hiking trail that stretches to over 150 km. This section cuts across long plains typical of the Northern Metropolitan Area.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Other corners of the Metropolitan Area, such as the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/loverval.be\/site\/promenades\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Centre de d\u00e9lassement de Loverval<\/a>\u00a0or the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sitytrail.com\/fr\/trails\/405763-thuin--bois-du-grand-bon-dieu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Vita Way in the Grand Bon Dieu woods<\/a> in Thuin, have different routes on offer, which can be chosen on the day depending on what you have in mind: a family walk, lacing up your running shoes or simply taking in a breath of fresh air at the end of a long day.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Miniature towns, wild panoramas, picturesque trails through fields and woods, the region is simply bursting with unique locations that you can discover on foot.
